Introduction to Cyanolumen Workshop - All Levels (6 Hours : August 24, 2024)
Saturday, August 24, 2024 : 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Instructor: Samantha Shelton
Cyanolumen is a hybrid of two distinct alternative photographic sun printing processes, 1) cyanotype and 2) lumen. First, photographic paper is coated with cyanotype solution and (optionally) other substances. The papers are then exposed to the sun and later fixed, skipping the developer step. It is camera less, as no camera or lens is involved in creating the photograms. Students layer negatives and objects such as plants directly onto the papers, to create a contact print. The course will cover the various phases of the photogram, including both prefixed and fixed states. Examples will be provided showing both wet and dry cyanolumens made with various types of black and white photographic papers.
Students will set up and expose their cyanolumens to the sun using black and white photo paper. They will then fix their images at the end of the course.
8x10 black & white photo paper is included. Fix bath and plexi will be provided. Students should bring their own plants, negatives and other objects. Objects should be thin enough to press between a contract printing frame, such as yarn, wire, thread, etc.
price includes $25 lab fee
